Superintendent, Welding
Safety Leadership
Ensure trade practices / procedures are safe, and employees are trained to comply with OSHA and BIW safety policies and test procedures. Lead initiatives to enhance workplace safety and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Project Execution
Lead the execution of all Welding construction and test activities to support ship construction schedules and test milestone schedules. Ensure shipyard facilities are staffed to meet EAC’s.
Operations Management
- Monitor quality and quantity of work being performed.
- Responsible for trade cost and schedule performance.
- Oversee Earned Value Management (EVM), reporting on cost variances and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with material control procedures.
Training and Development
- Provide technical guidance, deck plate training, and oversight to welding assistant superintendents, FLS’s, and represented employees to improve development.
- Provide feedback and lessons learned to improve future planning and execution stages.
- Maintain adequate staffing levels.
Team Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with trade and area management in an effort to assign resources and resolve department deck plate issues.
- Maintain a professional working environment within the trade.
- Ensure the labor contract is implemented fairly and consistently in all areas of the shipyard.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration with trade and area management.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and report systemic quality issues that can be evaluated and corrected by departmental process improvement initiatives.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to achieve maximum performance.
- Work with supporting division POC’s in an effort to execute trade value stream projects and meet company waste goals.
- Identify problems which drive cost and schedule impairments and lead process improvement initiatives.
Execution Lead for W12 Operations Improvement Plan

Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Construction Management, Engineering or Equivalent Experience in Related Field Required
A Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, construction management, engineering, or equivalent experience in related field required. Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum 5 Years of Supervisory/Management Experience in the Welding Trade Required
