About the role

The City of Cañon City seeks a highly experienced individual to lead the Street Division and Stormwater Operations Division. This position oversees the maintenance and repair of streets, storm water facilities, and public rights-of-way.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, prioritizes, and inspects the maintenance and repair of streets, storm water facilities, and public rights-of-way.
  • Works with other internal departments and external agencies on repairs, construction projects, and maintenance to ensure a coordinated delivery of services for the community.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws regarding streets, highways, and storm drainage maintenance.
  • Is a contact person for the City for FEMA Incident Management to serve in times of crisis or disasters.
  • Serves as supervisor to the assigned Street Division and Stormwater Operation Division employees.
  • Purchases supplies and services in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains database of street condition, work performed, equipment used, and associated costs.
  • Prepares and monitors budget for the Street Division.
  • Presents reports and implements policies as directed by City Administrator, Public Works Director, citizen groups, individuals, contractors, and others.
  • Provides excellent customer service to external and internal customers including but not limited to effectively listening and communicating, providing accurate information, offering solutions, assisting in resolution, and ensuring timely follow up as needed.

Requirements

  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible street maintenance, public works, or heavy civil construction experience.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid Colorado Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of hire, with a driving record acceptable to the City of Cañon City.
  • The ability to obtain a Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of employment.
  • The ability to obtain Certification in FEMS’s National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700A, Certification in FEMS’s Incident Command System (ICS) ICS-100 and ICS-200 within 6 months of employment.
