Superintendent/SSHO (Traveling)

Position Overview

KOMAN Construction, LLC is seeking a Construction Superintendent with federal contracting experience to support their projects in Corpus Christi, TX.

About the Role

The Construction Superintendent will support proposal efforts by developing constructability models for project execution in conjunction with estimating and project controls. They will read and understand construction specifications, engineering drawings, and the project scope of work. They will support the Project Manager to develop and lead an Integrated Project Team, ensuring objectives are well-defined, communicated, and managed from start to finish in accordance with contractual and client requirements. They will prepare work plans and other project-related documentation after award, plan and direct all construction activities on the project after award, obtain construction permits, supervise and mentor field staff, oversee subcontractors, coordinate labor needs, procure materials and equipment, establish a safe work environment, engage in required inspections, and ensure quality requirements are met.

Responsibilities

• Support proposal efforts by developing constructability models for project execution in conjunction with estimating and project controls.
• Reads and understands construction specifications, engineering drawings, and the project scope of work.
• Serves as a member of the Integrated Project Team, supporting the Project Manager in defining, communicating, and managing project objectives.
• Prepares work plans and other project-related documentation after award.
• Plans and directs all construction activities on the project after award.
• Obtains construction permits from local authorities needed during work performance.
• Supervises and mentors all field staff and provides constructive feedback.
• Oversees the construction activities of subcontractors and communicates frequently with subcontractor supervisors regarding schedule and progress.
• Collaborates with PMO functional leads regarding all labor needs and procurement for necessary materials and equipment for the project.
• Ensures materials and equipment are scheduled for arrival and use during scheduled phases.
• Develops, updates, and manages the overall construction schedule as well as the "three week" look-ahead schedules and reviews them with the project team, subcontractors, and clients during weekly meetings.
• Engages weekly with Project Controls to track project schedule and budgets.
• Maintains a safe work environment, facilitates safety meetings, documents safety concerns, and achieves resolution.
• Absorbs and interprets critical path schedules and construction drawings.
• Acts as a competent person in areas such as excavation/trenching, scaffolding, fall protection, cranes, and confined spaces.
• Maintains clear communication channels with clients and the project team and resolves problems as they arise.
• Plans, implements, and engages in required inspections during construction and works with Quality Control Managers to ensure quality requirements are met and necessary documentation is prepared and submitted.
• Implements safety and quality guidelines and ensures scheduled dates are met for each.
• Procures the appropriate heavy equipment and ensures regular maintenance schedules and daily inspections are performed.
• Communicates with clients and internal team on project progress during weekly scheduled progress meetings.
• Produces accurate and detailed daily reports and uploads them to the project records retention platform as required.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of construction experience, with at least 5 years as a superintendent on projects of similar size and complexity.
• Familiarity with EM 385-1-1 safety requirements.
• Experience in hazard identification and safety compliance.
• Ability to interpret critical path schedules and construction drawings.

Qualifications

• Must be able to act as a competent person in areas such as excavation/trenching, scaffolding, fall protection, cranes, and confined spaces.
• Must maintain clear communication channels with clients and the project team and resolve problems as they arise.
• Must be able to interpret critical path schedules and construction drawings.

Skills

• Construction experience, particularly with U.S. Navy installations under DoD.
• Ability to read and understand construction specifications, engineering drawings, and project scopes of work.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
