About the Role

The Superintendent, Mechanical leads mechanical and cooling-systems field execution for a new data center build—owning day-to-day site operations for this scope in a high-stakes, mission-critical environment. Reporting to the Construction Manager and Director, Construction, this role drives schedule, coordinates trades, and enforces safety and quality from mobilization through turnover. Superintendents are the standard on a Hut 8 site: what you walk past, you approve.

  • Mechanical & Cooling Systems: Supervise installation of chilled water plants, air and liquid cooling systems, CRAH/CDU equipment, heat rejection, and piping and insulation. Manage pipe flushing, pressure testing, and cleanliness protocols—contamination in a critical cooling loop is a commissioning-stopping event.
  • Hydronic Systems & Balancing: Own hydronic system installation and balancing: pumps, valves, strainers, and controls interfaces. Verify flow, pressure, and temperature performance against design intent before systems are turned over for commissioning.
  • Equipment Receiving & Rigging: Coordinate receiving, offload, and rigging of major mechanical equipment—chillers, CRAHs, CDUs, pumps, and cooling towers—with the Materials Manager and Logistics & Expediting Manager. Verify equipment condition, storage, and preservation requirements are met before installation.
  • Trade Sequencing in Dense Space: Own mechanical trade stacking and sequencing across white space, galleries, and mechanical yards. Run BIM-supported coordination in the field with electrical and controls trades and resolve clashes before they're installed.
  • Commissioning Handoff: Drive completion of installation checklists and prerequisites supporting Level 1-3 commissioning, and support Cx execution through Levels 4-5 with the CXQC Field Manager and Mechanical SME—your installation quality is the Cx schedule's foundation.
  • Safety & Quality Enforcement: Enforce mechanical safety practices—pressure testing controls, rigging and lifting operations, and confined-space entry where applicable—and hold mechanical trade partners to first-time quality with documented QC.
  • Planning, Documentation & Issues: Own the mechanical three-week look-ahead, daily coordination, and progress reporting. Drive mechanical RFIs and field issues to closure with the Project Engineer (MEP) and discipline engineers, and keep test records and as-builts current as systems complete.

Requirements

  • 7+ years supervising mechanical trades on data center, semiconductor, hospital, or heavy industrial projects; mission-critical strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of chilled water plants, air and liquid cooling systems, and hydronic distribution, including testing and start-up practices.
  • Experience driving Level 1-5 commissioning prerequisites and turnover documentation inside a live Cx program.
  • Strong trade-sequencing instincts in congested, schedule-critical space; fluent in look-ahead planning and manpower loading.
  • Pipe cleanliness, flushing, and pressure-test discipline for critical hydronic systems.
  • Safety leadership including rigging, lifting, and confined-space operations; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Comfortable with Procore/ACC, BIM field use, and full mechanical drawing packages.
  • Clear documentation habits: dailies, QC records, and test documentation.
