Superintendent I and II - Construction

Mortenson is seeking a Superintendent to provide coordination, planning, and supervision for assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities. This role focuses on developing customer relationships through excellent service and is available at both Level 1 and Level 2, depending on experience and qualifications.

This position involves overseeing construction activities, ensuring materials, equipment, and inspections align with the project schedule, and fostering collaboration across teams and project partners.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement strategies to ensure materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule.
• Review construction documents for completeness and constructability; understand contract documents and coordinate plans with design engineers.
• Develop and manage the project schedule, site logistics plan, and utilization of tools and equipment; collaborate with project partner superintendents.
• Coach, supervise, and develop team members; conduct orientations, planning sessions, and site meetings; supervise project partners; interview, hire, transfer, or dismiss team members as needed.
• Ensure proper task coding, lead and track work progress, handle team member training, and conduct career development discussions.
• Build effective relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
• Lead by example, offer coaching and feedback, and manage performance.
• Provide high-level management of safety, quality, risk, and compliance; recognize and mitigate unfavorable conditions; seek process improvements.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, OR 10 years of trade experience.
• Current driver’s license.
• Ability to fulfill responsibilities from development to closeout for multiple, complex projects.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
• Basic understanding of construction law and business practices.
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
• Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills.
• Ability to interpret and communicate company policies.
• Effective communication and active listening skills; openness to diverse input and feedback.

Qualifications by Level

Superintendent I

• Minimum 5 years of construction management or related experience.

Superintendent II

• Minimum 8 years of construction management or related experience.

Pay

• Superintendent I: Base pay range of $111,400 - $167,100.
• Superintendent II: Base pay range of $130,100 - $195,200. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%; Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%; Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration for internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
