Position Summary Ames Construction is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Superintendent to oversee field operations on large-scale civil construction projects. This role is responsible for managing daily site activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards. Key Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate all field personnel, subcontractors, and construction activitiesPlan and manage daily operations, including scheduling, manpower, equipment, and materialsEnsure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirementsMonitor project progress and adjust plans as needed to meet deadlines and budgetsCollaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and clients to ensure project successReview plans, specifications, and submittals to ensure work is performed correctlyConduct regular site inspections to maintain quality control standardsLead and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and jobsite briefingsMaintain accurate daily reports, logs, and documentationIdentify and resolve field issues proactively to minimize delays and cost impacts Qualifications 5–10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction (earthwork, structures, utilities, paving, etc.)Proven experience in a Superintendent or leadership roleStrong knowledge of construction methods, equipment, and safety practicesAbility to read and interpret plans, specifications, and schedulesExcellent leadership, communication, and organizational skillsOSHA 30 certification preferredValid driver’s license and ability to travel as required Preferred Experience Experience with DOT, municipal, or large infrastructure projectsBackground working with unions and managing union laborFamiliarity with project management and scheduling software Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsAbility to walk on uneven terrain and stand for extended periodsAbility to lift to 50 pounds as needed Why Join Ames Construction Competitive pay and benefits packageOpportunities for career growth and advancementStrong safety culture and team-oriented environmentWork on high-profile, impactful infrastructure projects Ames Construction is an equal opportunity employer.
