Superintendent - Drill and Blast
Reporting to the Surface Mine Manager, you will lead the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of drill and blast activities at Carmichael Coal Mine. This is a critical leadership role responsible for driving operational performance, contractor management, blast quality, cost control and continuous improvement across the drill and blast function.
Responsibilities
- Lead all drill and blast activities to safely deliver production and mine plan objectives
- Provide visible safety leadership and ensure compliance with site standards, statutory obligations and critical risk controls
- Manage drilling and explosives contractors to achieve operational, safety and commercial outcomes
- Drive blast quality, operational reliability and continuous improvement initiatives across the mining value chain
- Develop and manage drill and blast budgets, cost performance and contractor accountability
- Build capability within the team through coaching, mentoring and leadership development
- Monitor and report on key performance metrics, identifying opportunities to improve productivity, utilisation and overall business performance
- Manage enabling activities such as drill area preparation, road works, delineation, ancillary equipment and clearing activities
Requirements
- Significant experience leading drill and blast activities within an open-cut mining operation, including general mining earthworks and heavy equipment operations
- Sound understanding of drilling, explosives and blasting processes, risks and controls
- Strong contractor management and stakeholder engagement capability
- Experience managing budgets, operational performance and continuous improvement initiatives
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop and influence high-performing teams
- Excellent communication, planning and problem-solving abilities

Schedule
This position is based at the Carmichael Mine, Central Queensland's Galilee Basin, providing a balanced lifestyle with an eight days on and six days off (8/6 roster). The ideal candidate would FIFO out of Townsville, Rockhampton or Mackay (a flight time of 55 minutes). Candidates who live in the Isaac region also have the option to drive-in and drive-out.
