About the Role
The Superintendent will collaborate closely with project management and human resources to coordinate technician workforce planning, resource dissemination, and field operations oversight. Responsibilities include providing technical direction to technicians, maintaining safety standards, ensuring productivity and schedule adherence, upholding quality standards, and understanding union contract requirements.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise throughout the Pre-Construction process.
- Participate in Constructability review and assist in Pre-Construction scheduling.
- May contribute input during the pre-bid process.
- Oversee and schedule technician manpower across assigned geographies.
- Administer union contract regarding lay-offs and recalls.
- Maintain the process for leads or foremen to report daily timecards and follow up on late submissions.
- Hold team members accountable for maintenance and upkeep of Direct Line fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Collaborate with Project Managers on manpower scheduling, budget hours, and materials staging.
- Maintain site visits: daily for projects within a 2-hour drive, bi-weekly for projects within a 5-hour drive, and monthly for projects outside a 5-hour drive.
- Stay knowledgeable about full project scope of work and communicate work order changes to PM.
- Ensure job safety requirements are understood and implemented by all project personnel and trade contractors, working with safety support personnel.
- Strive for Zero Injury on all projects and support Leads with on-site safety meetings.
- Review and communicate the safety program and MSDS information in start-up meetings.
- Monitor and correct all safety hazards at the jobsite; report incidents to VP Operations, PM, and safety personnel.
- Review plans and specifications for constructability, construction schedules, and advise the project team of issues or deficiencies.
- Understand project specifications, scope of work, drawing packages, estimate, and budget set-up.
- May assist PM in quantity takeoff and pricing estimates.
- Mentor and train other employees.
- Oversee post-project activities, including testing, test results, and as-built documentation.
- Hold technician leads accountable for delivering and properly storing test results and as-built information.
- Manage and complete paperwork and processes outlined in the Field Career Progression program.
- Manage all test results and ensure inclusion in project folders.
- Participate in determining sequence and activity duration on schedules for proposed projects.
- Forecast manpower allocation for future work and identify potential project leads.
- Communicate construction goals to all field personnel.
- Maintain positive relationships with clients and project teams throughout projects.
- Advise and collaborate with Direct Line University on the development and implementation of training programs.
Requirements
- 10+ years of related experience or equivalent role.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Must meet Motor Vehicle Record requirements.
- Must meet all requirements to be properly badged and access client jobsites.
- Familiarity with construction management software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; AutoCAD is a plus for scheduling, spreadsheets, and cost control.
- Proficient in understanding building plans and specifications.
- Thorough knowledge of legal issues and safety standards.
