About the role

Balfour Beatty Construction is seeking a Superintendent with Mission Critical experience to join our team in Dallas, TX. This individual will need to be experienced at commissioning data centers. The Superintendent manages designated field activities associated with the project and supervises designated field construction work by subcontractors and employees. The role supports the project team to ensure the project is built on time, within budget, and in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and updates progress and cost reports, schedules, and requirements for completion on a regular basis to support and assist the Project Manager/Senior Superintendent.
  • Participates in preconstruction planning regarding the project schedule and budget; reviews project estimates and cost control systems at the beginning of the project.
  • Understands project specifications, the contract, and the contract’s general conditions; confirms that all materials and subcontract work comply with contract documents and quality specifications.
  • Ensures all materials are properly tested according to specifications and all test results are properly recorded.
  • Directs and coordinates subcontractor and Balfour Beatty Construction field personnel in designated areas of expertise.
  • Assists the Senior Superintendent in communicating expectations and direction with subcontractors and employees regarding schedules, construction methods, company policies, permits, safety, quality control, and performance standards.
  • Collaborates with Senior Superintendent to ensure project site and company assets are secure and maintains a safe and respectful working environment by implementing safety, risk management, training, and quality control programs.
  • Attends weekly project progress meetings with all subcontractor representatives and understands the upcoming week’s work to be accomplished.
  • Assists Senior Superintendent in ensuring the project closeout process is finalized to settle all financial obligations, demobilize all resources, and transition the project to the customer.
  • Builds effective relationships with customers, design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Promotes the company’s vision and purpose through Service, Talent, and Choices; serves as a role model and promotes professional behavior.
  • Participates in personal career development by attending operations training programs and takes accountability for training and developing direct reports.
  • Supports community, client, and subcontractor relations and events to enhance the company’s image and build relationships.
  • Provides challenging assignments, achievable development plans, and ongoing feedback to help employees achieve career goals.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • 4 to 7 years of experience with at least 3 of those years in a Superintendent role.
  • Experience working on mission critical construction projects and commissioning data centers.
  • Ability to make decisions under tight deadlines and organize people, tools, and equipment to manage multiple activities.
  • Commitment to quality by evaluating project-related processes, using customer input to make improvements, and meeting or exceeding internal and external customer expectations.
  • Proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
  • Thorough understanding of MEP systems, project sequencing, standards, schedule expectations, commissioning, and quality requirements of data center and mission critical projects.

Working Conditions

  • The majority of work is completed on job sites in an office trailer or in an existing structure.
  • Due to daily condition changes on construction projects, appropriate personal protective equipment is required when outside of the office trailer or structure.
  • May require relocation to other geographic project locations if necessary.
  • Potential for working nights and weekends, along with the possibility of overnight travel for weeks at a time.
