Superintendent
About the role
The Superintendent manages plant operations to meet customer expectations, focusing on safety, quality, productivity, and talent management. They lead the operations team and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Ensure production plans and staffing align with customer and sales expectations, including the use of overtime and overall headcount.
- Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions about inventory requirements, staffing, work procedures, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
- Recognize and implement cost-cutting initiatives to increase production.
- Support new process and product development and implementation.
- Maintain overall plant performance for production, transformation, and quality standards by developing and reviewing reports and metrics.
- Develop systems and set performance targets and measures that assess plant and direct report performance, and review progress to ensure target achievement.
- Talent Management: conduct performance evaluations, set goals, provide feedback, coach and mentor employees, and develop key talent.
- Coach salary direct reports on handling employee disciplinary issues using independent judgment in partnership with HR.
- Ensure safety metrics and goals are met.
- Work closely with HR & EHS on more complex issues related to safety.
- Identify training needs, reorganization techniques, coordinate cross-training opportunities, and support development plans.
- Partner with HR for succession planning and workforce planning initiatives.
- Identify succession role requirements and high-potential talent; actively train and develop key talent.
- Work closely with HR to determine retention initiatives.
