About the role
The Superintendent oversees the field construction of a project, ensuring it is completed on time, within budget, and adheres to all safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and establish effective working relationships with on-site staff to maintain positive project morale.
- Assist the Project Manager in developing on-site procedures and examine contract drawings, specifications, and addenda for potential issues.
- Communicate project issues, events, and progress to the Project Manager daily.
- Report problems to the Project Manager or Project Executive promptly to find cost-effective solutions.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients and Thornton team members, seeking advice and assistance as needed.
- Identify and mobilize for pre-mobilization activities, develop a start-up schedule, and review it with the Project Manager for approval.
- Aid in formulating and implementing construction schedules, creating the Project Baseline Schedule, and updating the schedule monthly.
- Monitor and enforce safety protocols, conduct weekly safety inspections, and issue safety violations to the Project Manager.
- Manage subcontractor performance, document site activities, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Attend and conduct weekly subcontractor meetings, project coordination meetings, and closeout meetings.
- Monitor costs, complete regulatory requirements, and maintain logs of key activities and drawings.
- Prepare subcontractor closeout, transfer of utilities, owner training, and punch list, ensuring all final inspections and permit closures are completed.
Requirements
- Four to six years of experience in related construction fields.
- Minimum OSHA-30 certification.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven leadership and team development skills.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-motivation and confidence.
- Business judgment to balance budget and construction processes.
- Endurance to visit the entire job site, including elevated structures.
