Superintendent

About the role

Thompson Turner Construction is looking for a candidate knowledgeable about all processes required to complete a project. The estimator will analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, or services, applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles, or processes. The role is critical to the financial success of Thompson Turner Construction.

Responsibilities

• Directs activities of workers concerned with construction of Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings and conventional steel buildings.
• Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction based on starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase, using knowledge of available tools, equipment, and building methods.
• Assembles team members (supervisory, clerical, engineering, and other workers) at the start of a project.
• Orders procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
• Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
• Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within the workforce.
• Confers with engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve methods.
• Inspects work in progress to ensure conformance to specifications and adherence to construction schedules.
• Prepares or receives reports on progress, materials used, and costs, adjusting work schedules as needed.
• Ensures all work is conducted safely and within regulatory compliance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A 4-year degree in engineering or construction management (or equivalent experience) preferred.
• 5-7 years minimum experience supervising and being responsible for building K-12 schools, municipal buildings, and industrial buildings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Blue Beam).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Self-directed with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong analytical skills in cost/pricing of materials, labor, and equipment.
• Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
• Knowledge of building permits, safety site restrictions, and project-related paperwork.
• Able to safely lead a team that works productively and safely.
• Willingness to work overtime as required to meet deadlines.
• Must pass a criminal background check based on job location/requirements.
