Superintendent

About the Role

This position provides project leadership for field construction activities and personnel, ensuring assigned projects meet budget, schedule, quality, and safety objectives. The role is influential in managing employees and ensuring adequate field personnel to meet staffing needs. The incumbent will participate in business development and estimating activities within their core competency and must support the company’s guiding beliefs and core values centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, with Integrity as the foundation.

The incumbent must have the flexibility to work varying shifts and long hours (8-12 hours), including weekends and extra hours as needed to meet production demands.

Responsibilities

• Works closely with management to plan and execute projects and ensure their successful completion.
• Plans and supervises all construction activities, including determining method of construction, sequencing, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, and work schedule.
• Trains and develops experienced Foremen/Lead working on projects.
• Manages the day-to-day activities of the construction operation through assigned personnel.
• Creates and maintains project schedules, monitors and reviews critical path dates and milestone schedules in conjunction with the Project Manager.
• Communicates site problems, plan conflicts, schedule, and quality issues effectively to the Project Manager and General Contractor.
• Proactively identifies and resolves field construction problems.
• Maintains open communication with other subcontractors to ensure all required materials, equipment, and inspections support project activities and schedule.
• Ensures project safety protocols are implemented and followed, including Site Specific Safety Plans, JSAs, Daily Activity Planner, and Toolbox Talks.
• Monitors all personnel and subcontractors for compliance with project safety program requirements; evaluates effectiveness and implements corrective measures.
• Participates in monthly Jobsite Safety Assessments and assists the Safety Department in incident/accident investigations and follow-up.
• Actively monitors project equipment needs, utilization, and maintenance requirements.
• Understands all subcontractors’ scopes; ensures subcontractors maintain schedules and quality standards meet contract requirements.
• Works with the General Contractor to ensure work complies with drawings and specifications.
• Provides input to Project Manager regarding cost and schedule forecasts.
• Assists the Project Manager with review (% complete) of monthly pay requests and Change Order review.
• Performs project close-out and ensures punch list is completed in a timely manner.
• Actively participates in business development and estimating activities within their core competency.
• Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
• Maintains equipment and tools to ensure long-lasting use.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience on concrete construction projects in an increasingly responsible field supervisory capacity.
• Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, and ability to manage large groups.
• Excellent organizational skills to effectively oversee all aspects of the project.
• Ability to hold crews accountable for safe work practices and work performance excellence.
• Foresight to avoid potential problems before they arise.
• Conscientious attitude toward controlling job costs and adhering to project schedules.
• Ability to influence and motivate work crews.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Valid Texas Driver License with a reasonably clean driving record.

Physical/Mental Requirements

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
• Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required.
• Ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate and executive.
• Must remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel.
• Capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
