Responsibilities
- Work with Project Manager in preparation of project schedule and budget.
- Become thoroughly familiar with the plans, specifications, contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, daily correspondence, shop drawings, and all documents related to the project.
- Select methods and acquire equipment for the project.
- Understand and enforce company safety policies and organize safety meetings with employees and supervisors.
- Employ or discharge workmen and intermediate foremen as needed to ensure safe, efficient, economical, and timely completions of the work.
- Assure accurate completion of all documentation including safety reports, payroll preparation, labor unit reports.
- Conduct meetings with subordinates, subcontractors, and others as appropriate to inform, coordinate, and direct work.
- Approve or disapprove invoices and monies spent on the job, and verify coding on all invoices and requisitions.
- Instruct supervisors in job direction and company policies and procedures.
- Inspect the work of employees and subcontractors to ensure construction conforms to requirements of the Contract Documents and the quality needed to build repeat business.
- Ensure jobsite compliance with all federally mandated policies and laws regarding equal employment opportunity and compliance with non-discriminatory laws and regulations.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Prepare detailed construction project plans, schedules, and estimates.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
- Calculate square footage, volumes, and percentages using a personal computer or calculator.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Prepare and update project schedules, transmittals, and submittals using personal computer software.
- Manage large groups of personnel and accomplish desired results through subordinate levels of management with little or no supervision.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial construction and management of field personnel.

- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- May be required to work long hours for extended periods of time, especially during problematic opening and/or closing phases of projects.
- Walking/balancing and moving about on foot to perform tasks where there is rough terrain and/or impediments such as sand, mud, ice, or snow.
Work Environment
The office provides a safe and healthy work environment, is adequately heated and cooled, is free from exposure to extreme conditions, has appropriate lighting and office furnishings, and is smoke-free and drug-free.
While performing the duties of this position in the fabrication shop, warehouse, maintenance shop, or at a project site, the employee could be regularly exposed to any number of the following, including, but not limited to:
- Moving mechanical parts and machinery.
- High, precarious places (including being raised several hundred feet in a bucket).
- Close, tight quarters; rough and sloped terrain.
- Fumes or airborne particles; drilling and blasting activities; welding activities.
- Toxic or caustic chemicals; potential of falling rock.
- Outside weather conditions.
- Risk of electrical shock and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is generally loud.
