About the Role

Eleven Western Builders (EWB) is seeking a Construction Superintendent to lead a team of subcontractors and EWB personnel from start to finish of retail construction projects throughout California and the western United States. The role requires a strong leadership presence, strategic mindset, and the ability to motivate teams, coordinate subcontractors, ensure work is to code, and deliver “clean and tight” projects on schedule and within budget. The Superintendent must maintain excellent organization, analytical skills, and safety standards while managing multiple priorities and client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Complete the onboarding program in the first week, including basic safety training, equipment certification, CPR, and OSHA training if not already completed.
• Provide valuable insights about job specifications and use ProCore software to document progress and send daily reports to the project team.
• Read job plans at least twice daily and conduct job walks to inspect progress, guiding work and coordinating with subcontractors to schedule tasks.
• Conduct daily meetings with retail clients, the EWB construction team, and inspectors.
• Coordinate all site construction activities and supervise field personnel (up to ~140 per day).
• By the 90‑day mark, successfully run a project of approximately $5 million plus, completing it on schedule and within budget while ensuring finished products are ready for client inspection and regulatory compliance.
• Hold subcontractors accountable to adhere to general safety procedures.
• Create, submit, and track RFIs and RFI responses to identify scope changes and manage change orders ranging from 15–500 % depending on job size and complexity.
• Within six months, demonstrate integrity, compassion, and empathy with clients, embodying EWB’s culture and encouraging a strong work ethic among the team.
• Step into new projects across various specialties (retail, hospitality, fast‑food, fuel stations, open‑store remodels, etc.) and competently assume superintendent duties with new teams.
• Complete “clean and tight” projects on time, maintaining schedules with fewer than two loose ends at completion.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience in a Superintendent role (required).
• 3+ years recent experience (within the last 5 years) building or remodeling in retail, hospitality, fuel stations, open‑store remodels, or fast‑food environments.
• Proficient math skills for calculations, square footage, and material take‑offs.
• Ability to read construction documents and knowledge of construction methods.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Project, Word); intermediate proficiency with ProCore is a plus.
• Valid California driver’s license, good driving history, dependable transportation, and ability to pass a background check.
• Current OSHA 10 and CPR certifications are a plus.
• Demonstrated history of working safely and adhering to safety standards.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout California and other assigned project locations, including frequent overnight travel, extended stays near project sites, and flexibility to remain on‑site during critical phases.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb, kneel, bend, stand, climb, perform repetitive motions, and use hand tools.

Pay

Salary Range: $90,000 – $165,000 annually
