Responsibilities
- Cook up crew production through directives given to foremen
- Maintain construction schedule while identifying and solving problems
- Order materials and schedule inspections as necessary throughout the process
- Ensure that ALL resources assigned are maintained, protected, secured and used
- Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices and rectify job site hazards immediately
- Responsible for all employees and contractors adhering to company safety policies
- Collaborate with Project Management to create look-ahead reports
- Maintain clean, organized job sites and equipment
- Responsible for daily activities reports and tracking materials
- Maintain quantities and track job costs
- Work harmoniously, cooperatively, and courteously with others at all times
- Follow directions and instructions from supervisors
- Work in a variety of weather conditions, including temperatures ranging from over 85 degrees to below 40 degrees
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of heavy highway construction operations
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Basic understanding of estimating and job cost
- Familiarity with the materials, methods, and techniques relative to road/highway construction
- Knowledge of field safety
- Ability to supervise road/highway construction projects from general plans and instructions given, and to determine the proper amounts of various materials, tools, and equipment needed
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering plans
- Ability to communicate with others to convey information effectively
- Ability to understand project documents, including construction plans, specifications, material data sheets, safety data sheets, and other necessary information
- Ability to keep organized records and to prepare work and time reports
- Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and allocate resources as needed
- Ability to use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects
- Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks
- Ability to perform frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted
- Must be able to see and hear well (naturally or with correction)
- Ability to travel and work overtime, as requested
Preferred Qualifications
- 4-year degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is strongly preferred
- 5+ years of successful road/highway construction experience
- In-depth knowledge of road/highway construction projects, including scheduling, contract administration, equipment, and manpower
- Strong Viewpoint, and HCSS (HeavyBid) software skills
- Experience with construction scheduling programs. Preferably in Primavera P6
- Previous experience with Asphalt Paving, Grading, and General Construction
- Experience in managing City/Municipal/Residential road-building projects
- Project Estimating Skills
- Documentation of construction safety training
- Experience with daily operations cost tracking systems
