The Construction Superintendent will oversee and coordinate daily construction activities to ensure the seamless and successful execution of project objectives. Working with the project director and/or project manager, you will develop execution strategies, schedules, and detailed plans to safely and efficiently execute field work, meeting client, business, and project milestones. This role requires technical expertise in construction means and methods, site/trade coordination, complex installations, logistics, schedule management, site safety, and field quality assurance. You will provide leadership, technical support, and guidance to on-site trade personnel, ensuring installations conform to drawings and specifications while implementing corrective actions for non-conformities. Effective communication and consensus-building with project team members and stakeholders are essential.
This is a full-time, FLSA exempt position requiring at least 40 hours per week, with the ability to work additional hours as needed. The role involves travel to project sites located in the SW Michigan region.
Responsibilities
- Manages all on-site construction functions in accordance with CSM Group’s established policies, procedures, and systems.
- Demonstrates mastery in construction project workflow and plans accordingly, identifying and mitigating risks that may jeopardize timely or safe project completion.
- Attends and contributes to Project Coordination/Preconstruction Meetings, providing constructability input.
- Reviews Bid Documents and Bid Review Documents to gain scope familiarity; participates in Pre-Bid Meetings and Post-Bid Interviews.
- Coordinates and chairs project kickoff meetings prior to subcontractor mobilization.
- Oversees general safety supervision and awareness with support from safety specialists.
- Manages project execution, including but not limited to:
- Trade/Vendor Coordination & logistics
- Daily Reports
- Development and management of Project Schedule, including Master Schedule and 3-week look-ahead updates
- Driving field outcomes to support schedule milestones
- Site Supervision and Project Coordination
- Daily review and authorization of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) forms, hot work permits, confined space plans, crane lift plans, and inspections
- Quality Control Inspections
- Coordination with Authorities Having Jurisdiction for permit issuance and signoff
- Facilitates Progress Meetings among trades and stakeholders
- Leverages business technology platforms (e.g., Procore, BlueBeam, MS Teams, MS OneNote, MS Project, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Smart Phone Applications, iPads) to maximize efficiency.
- Monitors performance, progress, and manpower issues; resolves as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior PM/CM and Project Director.
- Documents daily field activities, including photographs, manpower reports, delays, safety observations, conversations, deliveries, and other records to maintain a complete and accurate project history.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of related construction management experience within heavy construction, preferably with a Construction Management, General Contracting, or trade contracting firm.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is a plus but not required if combined with relevant experience.
- Knowledge of building codes (e.g., IBC, NEC, ASME, UMC, NFPA) is highly desirable.
- Trade certifications and licenses are desirable.
- Proven track record of solid safety implementation and a successful safety performance record.
- Completion of OSHA 30-hour training program is desirable.
- Experience with projects valued at more than $25,000,000 is highly desirable.
- Minimum training on utilizing equipment such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, and fork trucks.
- Proficiency in contemporary technology platforms or a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn.

- Regularly required to drive to and from jobsites, sit, walk, stand, talk, hear, and smell.
- Extensive walking around the jobsite, including active construction areas, with the ability to traverse uneven terrain and work from ladders, scaffolds, and other structures at variable heights.
- Frequent use of hands for handling tools, controls, and fine motor coordination (e.g., computer work).
- Occasional reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent exposure to ongoing construction activities, vibrations, noise, and various outside weather conditions (in all seasons). Work environment involves moderate risks requiring safety precautions.
- Noise levels may range from quiet to loud; proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety boots, hard hats, and protective eyewear is required on the jobsite.
