Superintendent

About the Role

The Superintendent provides the knowledge, skills, and experience required to manage the day-to-day field operations of construction projects and is responsible for the production aspects of the work. This role ensures quality work constructed consistent with project documents, plans, specifications, and company standards, performed in a timely and cost-effective manner, while maintaining a safe and orderly work environment. The Superintendent serves as the forward face of the firm, fostering a positive atmosphere, promoting communication, facilitating problem-solving, and minimizing conflict.

The role requires managerial and leadership skills to oversee subcontractors and manage a small self-performed workforce.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day field activities to meet project milestone dates and overall schedule completion.
• Create short-interval look-ahead project schedules to communicate, track, and execute upcoming tasks.
• Foster and maintain a culture that values safety, health, and cleanliness on the job site.
• Coordinate work to ensure it is constructed in an orderly and compliant manner per project specifications.
• Establish and maintain all dimensional controls for the project, including third-party survey and layout personnel when needed.
• Verify all work is installed in a workmanlike manner and in accordance with specifications.
• Proactively identify and resolve potential issues by maintaining a two-week look-ahead.
• Coordinate all inspections and document the quality aspects of the physical work.
• Ensure compliance with company standards and legal requirements governing the project and community.
• Conduct and/or attend pre-construction, progress, and other project and staff meetings.
• Participate in meetings with internal staff, managers, and subcontractors.
• Manage self-performed activities to ensure work stays within the established project budget.
• Manage changes in project scope to ensure up-to-date project documents are used to prevent rework.
• Review contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and agreements to ensure scope, terms, and conditions are met.
• Oversee the punch list and project closeout process for timely completion.
• Maintain daily paperwork such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates, and email correspondence.
• Direct and manage the workloads of supporting staff, including training, mentoring, and encouraging professional development.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of progressive responsibility supervising construction projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the construction industry, preferably with a focus on commercial and industrial projects.
• Demonstrated understanding of construction means and methods for renovation and construction of commercial and industrial projects.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, email, and other construction industry software.
• Current safety credentials, including OSHA certification, CPR/Life Safety certifications, and CQM-C Certification (or ability to obtain).
