About the role
The Shrewsbury Public Library is seeking a Sunday Reference Librarian to join their team. This seasonal role operates from 12:30pm-5:00pm every Sunday from October to May, with the length of the season potentially varying based on funding resources.
Responsibilities
- Assists patrons with reference and information requests
- Conducts basic research
- Helps patrons with public access catalogs, printers, computers, and online resources
- Trains users on the use of e-readers, tablets, and other devices
- Manages bookings of group study rooms
- Makes information referrals
- Handles issues as they arise
- Works directly with Access services staff, Children’s staff, and the Sunday Supervisor to ensure successful operation of all library services from opening to closing
- Communicates regularly with the Adult Services team to ensure consistency of reference service between weekdays and Sundays
- Oversees the work of library pages, as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; ALA accredited Masters of Library and Information Sciences Degree preferred
- Two years of professional experience in library reference services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong proficiency with ILS (preferably Evergreen)
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping
- Knowledge of library practices and procedures, and the ability to manage materials effectively
- Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to foster positive relationships with colleagues and patrons
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
