Summer School Special Education Paraeducator, ESY, 4.0 hrs/day (.5 FTE), Part Time, Temp

About the role

The North Clackamas School District is seeking a Paraeducator II to work in their Structured Learning Center, providing support to students with severe physical and mental special needs. The program runs from July 7th, 2026 through July 30th, 2026, with 4-hour shifts daily.

Responsibilities

• Assists Special Education teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students with severe physical and mental special needs.
• Maintains and documents student weekly progress reports.
• Provides complex toileting, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene-related duties for students requiring such help.
• May independently teach basic life skills such as cooking, laundry, and personal hygiene.
• De-escalates students who are at risk of harming themselves or others using approved procedures.
• Supports students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.
• Implements behavior support and intervention plans as directed by a teacher.
• Assists in implementing physical and occupational therapy plans.
• Oversees student safety during various activities.
• Performs clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials and record keeping.

Requirements

• Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities.
• Associate's Degree or two years of post-high school education.
• Certified in first aid, CPR, and/or operation of defibrillators.
• Knowledgeable in instructional and behavior intervention methodologies.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a team member.
• Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing tasks.
• Ability to remain calm and focused when working with students, parents, guardians, and community members.
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions and take initiative when needed.
• Knowledgeable in classroom management and student discipline procedures.
• Effective and accurate command of the English language.
• Able to organize work and set priorities for accomplishing tasks.
• Able to protect the confidentiality of student information.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Skill in the use of office and computer equipment and standard office software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate and related field of study.
• Two years of experience working with children in a learning environment.
• Bilingual and bicultural skills.
• Familiarity with areas such as Down syndrome, Autism, multiple disabilities, mental health disorders, ADHD, etc.
