Paraeducator position supporting secondary students with vocationally specific instructional assistance. Part-time, permanent role at 4.0 hours per day (.5 FTE).
About the role
The incumbent provides vocationally specific instructional support to teachers and assists groups of students across various curriculum clusters. This role combines the full range of Paraeducator duties with applied vocational experience and training to enhance student learning.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with teachers in assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, enforcing and teaching safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth in the classroom.
- Assist students in using and applying specific curriculum, vocational knowledge, skills, tools, processes, and equipment.
- Support students and coordinate with business representatives in in-school or off-site work environments as part of vocational learning.
- Implement behavior support and intervention plans as directed by a teacher; document student behavior to assist in assessing progress with education plans.
- Maintain or assist in maintaining student weekly progress reports.
- Communicate with students, parents, and community members respectfully and confidentially, following staff, administrator, and district guidance.
- Discuss grades with students and assist them with strategies and plans to improve; help with school work.
- Take action or assist in de-escalating students at risk of harming themselves or others, following approved procedures.
- Oversee student behavior and safety; intervene when students are not in control, out of proper location, or in unsafe situations.
- Provide instructional support and tutoring in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one settings.
- Perform personal care duties such as toileting, feeding, mobility, and hygiene for students requiring assistance.
- Handle clerical duties including copying, operating office equipment, answering phones, ordering materials, and record keeping.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities, or demonstrated commitment to engaging a diverse community and skill in communicating with diverse populations.
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent education and experience with background and training in specific curriculum clusters (language arts, mathematics, science, social studies). The education requirement may be substituted by passing the Paraprofessional assessment at the District’s discretion.
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing tasks and priorities.
- Ability to assist, console, and manage students who may be emotional, distraught, or frustrated.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and in control when engaging with challenging students, parents, guardians, or community members.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions and take initiative to seek clarity and act when needed.
- Knowledge and support of classroom management and student discipline procedures.
- Strong command of the English language, including proper enunciation, spelling, syntax, and usage to model proper language for students.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, and accomplish tasks in a timely and effective manner.
- Ability to protect student confidentiality consistent with FERPA requirements and good judgment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in using office and computer equipment, standard office software, and student information system software.
- May be required to obtain certification in first aid, CPR, and/or operation of defibrillators.
- May be required to complete training in specific instructional methodologies for content areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics.
Qualifications
- University training that included coursework in or related to education (e.g., growth and development, learning theories).
- Three years of experience in the specific vocational area of the position (e.g., child services, culinary arts, manufacturing, marketing, cosmetology).
- Knowledge or training from a university teacher preparation program that would lead to a license to teach in a core academic area (language arts, reading, mathematics, sciences, social studies).
- Bilingual and bicultural skills in languages common to the District, such as Spanish, Russian, Korean, or Vietnamese (specific language needs determined by position).
Pay
Initial wage placement according to the NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement for the 2026-2027 school year:

- North Clackamas School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP). The district contributes the employer portion; employees contribute a mandatory 6% via payroll deduction upon eligibility (defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position). Part-time employees qualify if they work at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year.
Schedule
- 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., subject to change based on department needs.
