The survey intern assists the field survey party by making survey measurements for route surveys by operating various field equipment. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Operate surveying equipment in accordance with department methods and processes.
- Participate in measuring operations to establish horizontal and vertical centerline control.
- Perform measurements and marking of locations for soundings, soil and geological surveys, intermediate right-of-way locations, and easement corners.
- Set out safety devices, work zone signs, traffic cones, and warning flags; place targets for photogrammetry.
- Record survey data such as centerline profile, cross sections, vertical control and culvert sections in electronic field book.
- Maintain survey equipment, safety devices, supplies and vehicles; compute and record mileage for survey vehicles.
- Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrolled in a relevant 2-year/associate’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
- 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
- Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
