About the role
The design intern is assigned to job duties ranging from assistant design technician to senior design technician and/or survey assistant to senior survey assistant, based on level of education and summer job experience.
Responsibilities
- Utilize computer aided drafting, road design software and various other computer software packages to assist in the preparation of computer-generated design plans by drafting and adding text to the design file and producing plan sheets.
- Utilize design software, computer aided design and drafting, or calculator to calculate quantities, types and sizes of materials and other information as required for project assignments; prepares summaries of quantities.
- Delineate right of way on plans and computes areas; print microfilm plans and maps for survey research and requests.
- Mount displays, project overviews, maps, and photos for public hearings and presentations; prepare handouts for bid lettings, public hearings, legal hearings and public meetings.
- Research historical databases and records; locate and reproduce highway plans that are kept on microfilm or compact disk for designers, the general contractors, consultants, and utility companies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrolled in a relevant ABET-accredited bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
- 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
- Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
