Brook Hill runs summer English language study and travel programs for international high school students across North America. Students take English classes and explore surrounding regions while staying at North American colleges and universities.

About the role

English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Teachers deliver EFL lessons to international high school students based on the provided curriculum and lesson plans. Lessons focus primarily on improving students' listening and speaking skills. Class levels range from elementary to high advanced. Opportunities to teach specialized courses or lessons in American history and culture, business and entrepreneurship, international relations, the United Nations, the movie industry, communication, and journalism may also be available.

This is a part-time, hourly, in-person position reporting directly to the Academic Supervisor. On-campus housing is not provided. Complimentary parking permits may be available depending on the campus.

Responsibilities

• Interact with groups of international high school students and their group leaders in a professional, enthusiastic, and customer service-oriented manner.
• Adhere to and enforce Brook Hill policies and procedures, including emergency and public health protocols.
• Ensure the safety of all participants and maintain familiarity with campus-specific information.
• Maintain frequent communication with Brook Hill staff and assist with emergency situations as needed.
• Complete all Brook Hill assessments received during the employment period.
• Deliver well-prepared, engaging EFL lessons to diverse classrooms of international high school students.
• Review the provided curriculum and supplement with your own materials as appropriate.
• Assess student placement and proficiency levels, as directed by the Academic Supervisor.
• Use appropriate classroom management techniques to create a safe and engaging learning environment.
• Track daily student attendance and fill out Certificates of Course Completion for each student.
• Collaborate with the Academic Supervisor and administration on instructional methods and curriculum.
• Attend training sessions and additional meetings organized by the Academic Supervisor or Brook Hill administration.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

The employment period ranges from 1 to 8 weeks during the summer, with most instructors teaching for 2-6 weeks. Availability should be indicated in the application.

Classes are held Monday through Saturday, averaging 4-5 days per week, with some Saturday mornings required. Some weeks may require up to six days of classes. Typical lesson times are 8:30 AM–12:15 PM, with additional afternoon classes from 1:15 PM–5:00 PM. Peak hours occur when enrollment is highest, usually the last two weeks of July. Unpaid vacation time may be approved but is not guaranteed.

Pay

Pay ranges from $24.00 to $27.00 per hour, determined by campus location and program size.

Requirements

• Authorization to work in the U.S. required.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Bachelor’s degree required (at the time of start date); TESOL certificate and/or Master’s degree preferred.
• Prior EFL/ESL teaching experience strongly preferred.
• Experience working with multicultural and multilingual classrooms strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with Google Drive (including Google Sheets and Google Slides) and Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) strongly preferred.
• Successful candidates will be self-motivated, organized, professional, and adaptable, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and any required fingerprinting, in compliance with state and federal regulations, due to working with minors.
