About the role

MPR Associates, Inc. (MPR), a thriving multi-discipline, specialty engineering services and consulting firm founded in 1964, is seeking talented junior or senior engineering students for paid co-op engineering opportunities. We work throughout the United States as well as internationally, serving clients in electric power (generation—both renewable and nuclear—as well as transmission & distribution), federal services, and health and life sciences. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, we also have offices in East Lyme, Connecticut; Burlington, Massachusetts; and Salt Lake City, Utah.

We are actively searching for students excelling in a variety of technical disciplines, including:

Responsibilities

We offer the opportunity for students to work and learn across multiple project disciplines, helping formulate collaboration and deliver technically informed business insights to our clients. Typical engineering projects may involve:

  • Thermal hydraulic, structural, and electrical analysis in support of the industries we serve
  • Product Development (including mechanical and electrical design, software development, printed circuit board design, systems engineering, and testing)
  • Asset Management and Business Operations Improvement (including data analytics, automation, machine learning, quality assurance, and process development)
  • Capital Project Management and Planning (including support of project siting, permitting and development, project planning, owner’s engineering, oversight of execution, and risk management)
  • Process Control Systems and Communications (including system architecture, design, software development, testing, and risk assessment)
  • Advanced nuclear technology design, analysis, and deployment

Qualifications

The ideal candidate can work collaboratively on engineering teams as well as independently to produce high-quality technical deliverables. Students will work on project teams with junior and senior engineers, providing opportunities to learn from and work with recognized industry-wide experts.

Successful candidates will possess:

  • An excellent academic record
  • High motivation and proactivity
  • A strong desire to pursue a technical career path
  • Robust analytical skills, including the ability and passion to problem solve
  • Aptitude to work outside of a single engineering discipline and quickly learn new concepts
  • Advanced computer skills (preferred, including familiarity with programming languages such as C++ or Python, analysis programs such as Ansys or MATLAB-Simulink®, and design programs such as SolidWorks)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail

Schedule

Positions are available during the spring, summer, and fall semesters.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $1,000 to $1,450 weekly. Actual compensation is based on several factors, including experience, internal parity, education, and skills.
