Summer Camp Unit Leader

About the role

We are seeking a Summer Camp Unit Leader to positively impact the summer camp community around us. Our role involves helping children reach their potential, enact age-appropriate goals, and change lives within our Y community.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and train staff to ensure effective implementation of programs and activities.
• Ensure staff adherence to all policies and procedures.
• Coach and train staff in providing quality camping experiences.
• Plan and oversee the implementation of a variety of camp activities; ensure activities are age appropriate and contribute to the overall growth and development of the campers.
• Able to identify, address, and redirect/correct inappropriate behavior.
• Able to ensure appropriate behavior of campers and staff to avoid the risk of accidents.
• Able to assist in maintaining effective communication with parents/guardians regarding camper and camp activities.

Requirements

• At least 18 years old.
• High school graduate or equivalent, or enrolled in a minimum of 2 years of child development coursework approved by state licensing requirements.
• Experience working with children and at least two seasons working as a Y Camp Counselor or as a counselor in a comparable program.
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and experience working with children.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Ability to deal effectively with inappropriate behavior and recognize hazard situations.
