Summer Art Camp Educators

Wayne Art Center’s renowned Summer Art Camp is in its 42nd year serving the Mainline community. Known for high-quality instructors, the camp offers artistic lesson plans infused with educational components based on unique weekly themes, promoting curiosity, confidence, and creativity in campers aged 4–17.

About the role

We are seeking teachers in all artistic disciplines (drawing, painting, collage, mosaics, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, culinary, fiber arts, sewing, fashion, stained glass, architecture, drama, and more) for our 2026 Summer Art Camp, themed ART 250: Visions of America, running June 8th – August 21st, 2026.

Camp runs Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 5:00pm, with 11 individually themed, one-week sessions. Studios are open for setup and cleanup from 9:00am – 5:30pm. Teachers may choose to work mornings (9:30am – 12:00pm), afternoons (12:30pm – 3:00pm), late afternoons (3:30pm – 5:00pm), or all day, and select their availability across the 11 weeks. Teaching positions may lead to additional class or workshop opportunities throughout the year.

Specialized Teaching Roles

• General Art Teachers (Ages 4–17): Familiarity with age-appropriate art materials and ability to integrate art history, artists, and styles into lesson plans aligned with weekly themes.
• Ceramic Teachers (Ages 6–17): Experience in hand-building, wheel-throwing, glazing, and multiple firing processes. Ability to demonstrate three substantial projects weekly, properly tagged for firing, and create a fun, engaging learning environment.
• Culinary Teachers (Ages 8–17): Instruct weekly themed culinary classes with a focus on kitchen safety. Execute approved menus and recipes, ensuring timely completion of all dishes. Weekly recipe booklets are provided to campers as take-home projects. Professional culinary training or experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, and provide lesson plans tied to weekly themes, incorporating artists, art history, aesthetics, objectives, daily project goals, and materials lists. Submit lesson plans two weeks prior to each teaching assignment.
• Encourage students to produce high-quality work and contribute to a theme-inspired group show displayed at the end of each camp week.
• Demonstrate strong classroom management skills and supervise students and volunteers effectively.
• Respond to emails and calls in a timely manner.
• Maintain positive interactions with parents regarding their camper’s progress and challenges.
• Be dependable, enthusiastic, and maintain a positive attitude.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or teaching certification (preferred).
• Previous camp experience (preferred).
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience with elementary and middle school-aged children.
• General knowledge of various art techniques, disciplines, materials, and curriculum development.
• Ability to teach children of all ages and backgrounds.
