Internship Details

  • Program Timing: May 25 - July 30, 2027
  • 40 hours each week with a mix of in-office and remote working days
  • Project-based work
  • Market competitive hourly compensation and a sign-on bonus, as well as financial housing assistance for those who qualify
  • Successful interns will have the opportunity to return to Ally in an Early Talent Program or full-time role, or to a second internship, depending upon graduation timing.

Auto Data & Analytics Overview

Interning within Auto Data & Analytics means being part of a team that is responsible for the development, delivery, and support of technologies and tools that enable management of Dealer Financial Services-related data. We partner with Ally’s businesses to supply the data that fuels our company’s ability to make informed decisions, solve business problems, innovate, and capitalize on opportunities. Throughout the duration of the program, you'll have the ability to hone your skills in analytical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. Typically, interns are matched with a specific team and manager in mid-spring. Doing so offers the ability to assign program participants to real-time, business critical needs.

Possible Team Placements

  • Alternate Lending (Detroit, MI) - Oversees alternative lending strategies, including application pass-through programs and forward flow partnerships with auto originators. These solutions help dealers expand credit access for consumers while supporting and diversifying Ally’s origination channels. Leveraging data analytics, strategic planning, and relationship management, the team drives profitable revenue growth.
  • Auto Modeling & Analytics (Charlotte, NC) - Develops models and scorecards for auto loan and lease origination, and supports the pricing team with lifetime loss estimation.
  • Business Intelligence (Detroit, MI and Lewisville, TX) - Builds and delivers scalable business intelligence solutions that empower business and analytics teams with timely and actionable insights. We support end-to-end reporting needs across the Consumer Auto business through Reporting & Analytics. A great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with real business problems, cross-functional stakeholder engagement, and a modern tech stack including Snowflake, Power BI, Power Apps, Python, Posit, and dbt.
  • Consumer Auto Origination Analytics (Detroit, MI) - Develop, implement, and monitor quantitative tools that predict risk metrics, estimate future credit mix, assess price elasticity, and identify optimal pricing scenarios that achieve business objectives within defined constraints.
  • Consumer Credit Policy & Decision Optimization (Detroit, MI and Lewisville, TX) - Focuses on developing origination strategies that optimize the Ally Auto portfolio by balancing risk management with growth. Working closely with Auto Consumer Operations, we use data, analysis, and decisioning tools to drive informed decisions and improve portfolio performance.
  • Consumer Auto Pricing & Analytics (Detroit, MI and Charlotte, NC) - Develops, implements, optimizes, tests, and analyzes rate strategies to achieve financial business plan targets while operating within the risk appetite framework. Establish optimal dealer buy rates across various product channels while being sensitive to macroeconomic, competitive market, and rate relevancy trends. Product channels include Indirect Retail, Direct Retail, CSG, and Lease.
  • Consumer Auto - Servicing Strategy & Analytics (Lewisville, TX) - Drive Ally’s Servicing Strategies, including collections, repossession, or recovery strategy and analytics for Ally’s auto portfolio with the purpose of optimizing how the business operates. The teams use data driven approaches to help the business optimize strategies, improve portfolio performance, reduce operational expenses and improve customer experience.
  • Data Management (Detroit, MI and Lewisville, TX) - Develops best-in-class data solutions and enables trusted, governed, and AI-ready data that powers business insights and strategic decision-making across the Consumer Auto business. We manage end-to-end data consumption through Data Management, Governance & Risk Management, and Analytics Engineering. A great opportunity to gain exposure to stakeholders across Consumer Auto and the Enterprise, best-in-class data ecosystems, and an advanced tech stack including Snowflake, dbt, Python, and AI tools.
  • Funding Strategy (Detroit, MI) - Focuses on supporting strategic decision-making for our Contract Processing and Funding teams. The team works with large, complex datasets to evaluate workflow performance, identify bottlenecks, measure funding and processing trends, and build models that support forecasting, capacity planning, risk identification, and operational strategy. They also partner closely with stakeholders across contract processing, funding operations, and underwriting operations to translate business questions into analytical frameworks and deliver insights that improve speed, accuracy, scalability, and overall business outcomes. At its core, this is a business strategy and analytics role focused on helping the Contract Processing and Funding teams make smarter, faster, and more data-driven decisions to increase funding efficiency.
  • Incentives (Detroit, MI) – Administers Ally’s various employee incentive compensation plans across multiple business units including sales, collections, and other customer-facing positions. They perform end-to-end development, administration, and execution of incentive compensation plans.
  • Loss Forecasting (Detroit, MI and Charlotte, NC) - Responsible for credit loss forecasting, stress testing and reserve setting for Ally’s ~$85B consumer automotive loan portfolio. The team covers a broad spectrum of responsibilities and has opportunities in model development, data science, advanced data analytics, business analytics, data management and executive reporting.
  • Sales & Large Dealer Support (Detroit, MI) - Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Sales, Credit, Pricing, and Regional Executive Leadership, as well as dealer clients, to identify new business opportunities and support strategic initiatives. Help develop and implement dealer group programs, analyze business performance, and create data-driven insights and visualizations that inform decision-making and tell the story behind the data.
  • Stip & Fraud Strategy (Lewisville, TX) - Focuses on supporting strategic decision-making for our fraud and stipulation strategy teams. This role is designed for an analytically rigorous candidate who can apply advanced data science and business analytics techniques to improve operational performance, uncover strategic opportunities, and help optimize strategy and processes. In this position, you will work with large, complex datasets to evaluate to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and recommendations to optimize our fraud or stipulation strategies to optimize growth, risk, and/or operational expenses. At its core, this is a business strategy and analytics role focused on helping the Stipulation and Fraud Strategy teams make smarter, and data-driven decisions to achieve key business outcomes.

Program Eligibility

  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and May 2029
  • Rising Junior or Senior (during the time of internship) in a full-time undergraduate program
  • Available for the full duration of the internship program
  • Eligible to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship from the company now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred majors include: Business Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Information Sciences, and Statistics
  • Prior experience with SQL, Power BI and Python is a plus
  • Ability to collect, manage and analyze data to solve problems and drive strategies across the Auto organization
  • Data-centric, collaborative and curious individuals with a high-level of emotional intelligence, adaptability and influencing skills
