Summer 2027 Consulting Internship - Organizational Development & Public Development Services
BerryDunn’s Local Government Practice Group is seeking a Consulting Intern to support our Community Development and Organizational Development teams. The Consulting Team serves the organizational, information technology, and management needs of local and state government agencies across the United States, with deep experience in public-sector fiscal constraints and constituent service.
About the role
As a summer intern in the Portland, Maine office, you will work under close supervision and receive coaching from supervisors, consultants, or principals on client engagements within the Community Development Utility Operations and Organizational Development practices. You will gain familiarity with the firm’s systems, operations, and client relationships while demonstrating flexibility, a willingness to seek advice, and a strong ambition for learning.
This internship runs from May 25, 2027 to August 6, 2027. An unofficial academic transcript must be included with your application.
Responsibilities
- Develop an understanding of the general consulting process in local government.
- Assist in performing consulting engagements of all sizes.
- Support project management tasks, including tracking and reporting project progress, conducting research, maintaining project document repositories, and reviewing deliverables for quality assurance.
- Follow appropriate diagnostic, data collection, fact-finding, and data analysis practices.
- Keep supervisors and others informed of the status of assigned projects.
- Provide ad hoc assessments and briefings in response to client requests.
- Participate in staff/team meetings and training, and work effectively as a team player on multiple client projects.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a BA/BS/MS program in Political Science, Communications, Business Administration, and/or Computer Science.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated experience in relationship building, including excellent writing and communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
Relevant work experience in government or public administration is a plus.
Pay
The hourly rate for this role is $30 per hour. Final compensation may vary based on experience, education, and other qualifications.
