Summer 2027 Consulting Internship - Health Policy Analysis

BerryDunn’s Healthcare Analytics Practice Group is seeking a highly motivated Consulting Intern to support our growing Health Policy Analysis Practice. We provide economic, actuarial, and analytics services to both government and nonprofit clients and offer opportunities for growth in responsibility and compensation to challenge-seeking individuals with a passion for excellence. This full-time internship is based in our Portland, ME office and runs from May 25, 2027, to August 6, 2027.

About the role

Work performed will be closely supervised through coaching and training. With guidance from staff members of the Consulting Team, you will become familiar with the firm’s systems, operations, and relationships. The firm expects you to demonstrate flexibility, a willingness to seek out advice, and an ambition for learning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of the general consulting process.
  • Follow appropriate diagnostic, data collection, fact-finding, and data analysis practices.
  • Develop skill in written and verbal communications.
  • Gather, manipulate, and analyze healthcare data from a variety of sources.
  • Keep supervisors and others informed of the status of assigned projects.
  • Participate in staff/team meetings and training and work effectively as a team player on multiple client projects.
  • Develop concise summaries, reports, and presentations of complex data for client leadership.
  • Perform assigned administrative tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Assist in performing consulting engagements of all sizes, including conducting research, assisting with detailed and technical aspects of the engagement, documenting the engagement, and assisting with engagement reporting.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Master's degree program in Mathematics, Statistics, Political Science, Public Health, Economics, Management Information Systems, Health Care Management, or Business.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite of software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required; experience with Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint desirable.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

  • Self-starting and proactive approach to identifying and maintaining momentum for activities important to the team and its clients, while flexibly responding to occasional deadline-driven sprints.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and administrative skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to stay ahead of deadlines and manage multiple client and internal priorities.
  • Writing/editing/proofreading experience.
  • Ability to communicate with management in an open and objective manner.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-based, collaborative environment.
  • Effective communicator via email, phone, video, or face-to-face.
  • Passionate about topics that affect public welfare and consumer protection.
  • Interested in healthcare-related topics, including Medicaid and public health.

Pay

The hourly rate for this role is $30 per hour. This rate range represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications more than the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply, and a final rate may then be based on those additional qualifications. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
