About the role
The North Slope Borough seeks a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Substitute employee to provide veterinary medical care services on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities
- Respond to public concerns regarding health-related subjects, investigate and solve problems or refer to the appropriate agency.
- Supervise inoculation of animals routinely for diseases, especially rabies.
- Oversee enforcement of Borough A.C. Ordinance 77-2-2 including control of stray animals and rabies outbreaks.
- Provide animal medical and surgical care, including examinations, health certificates, dental procedures, reproductive surgeries (spay/neuter), amputations, and other necessary surgeries.
- Oversee euthanasia procedures.
- Promote responsible animal ownership and community safety from animals inflicted by injury or causing a nuisance, while providing veterinary related services.
- Absorb inspections at the request of other agencies (i.e. State of Alaska) and assist with providing a resolution.
- Provide 24-hour "on-call" status in response to animal illness and injuries.
- Travel to NSB villages to provide veterinary medical care.
- Participate in continuing education to maintain license, as required by the State of Alaska.
Requirements
Required:
- A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited university.
- Ability to be licensed to practice in the State of Alaska within the first six weeks of employment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DEA License.
- Ability to obtain a Valid Alaska driver's license that meets North Slope Borough Insurance criteria within the first six weeks of employment.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
- Skills in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, other Borough employees and representatives from other local, state and Federal agencies.
