About the role
Substitute Teaching Assistants assist classroom teachers in pedagogical and classroom management tasks within the Department of Special Education at Nassau BOCES.
Responsibilities
- Work with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Provide the classroom teacher with information about students to assist in developing appropriate learning experiences.
- Collect student data and monitor progress toward Individualized Education Program goals where appropriate.
- Assist students in using available instructional resources and help develop instructional materials.
- Support the classroom teacher with related instructional tasks as required.
- Assume all instructional duties in the absence of the classroom teacher.
Requirements
- New York State Education Department Certification: Teaching Assistant Level I, II, or III, or New York State Department of Education Teacher Certification (Special Education).
- Experience working with special education students with a wide range of needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Experience in providing small group instruction in academic areas is preferred.
- Knowledge of Google Classroom and instructional technology.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and platforms is preferred.
Pay
As per contract.
