Substitute Teachers SY2026-2027

Qualifications

• Hold a teaching certificate (Standard, CEAS, or CE) issued by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners/New Jersey Department of Education.
• OR be eligible to receive a County Substitute Certificate by:
  • Completing 30 semester-hour credits in an accredited college.
  • Passing a criminal history background clearance.
  • Paying a $125.00 fee (certificate valid for five years).
  • Applying for the substitute credential at NJEdCert.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or appropriate employment authorization.
• Required criminal history background check.
• Must be a New Jersey resident within one year from the date of hire.
