Substitute Teachers

Ulster BOCES Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning Programs is seeking Substitute Teachers for assignments for the 2026-2027 school year. Experience working with elementary and/or secondary education students preferred. Fingerprinting required.

Pay

$147.00/day

Responsibilities

• Help students develop skills and knowledge that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible individuals.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated by the administrator.
• Plans a program of study that is consistent with the individualized education plan.
• Maintains written lesson plans, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, and communicates these objectives to students.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Assesses the performance of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
• Administers and scores State Education Department assessments.
• Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation and provides reports of same when requested within designated time frames.
• Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Plans and coordinates purposeful assignments for classroom teaching assistant, teacher aide(s), and volunteer(s).
• Plans and coordinates, when necessary, with mainstream teachers.
• Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies.
• Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as required.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
• Assumes other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
