Substitute Teacher - K-5

Great Hearts Arlington Lower School is seeking K-5 Homeroom Substitute Teachers to guide students in Humanities, Math, Science, Fine Arts, Languages, and Physical Education. Our teachers inspire through intelligence, charisma, humor, moral integrity, and example, fostering a love of truth, beauty, and goodness.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, engaging classroom environment where all students can learn and reach their fullest potential.
• Follow provided lesson plans and maintain classroom order.
• Provide timely, meaningful evaluation and correction of student work.
• Engage students using the Socratic method and lead by example.
• Embrace and support the school’s vision of community, learning, and leadership.
• Perform additional campus duties as assigned.
• Adhere to school philosophy, policies, and procedures as outlined in the Faculty and Family Handbooks.
• Follow the Academy Crisis Plan and other safety protocols to ensure student security.
• Assist students with individual needs and help them make up work after absences.
• Communicate with parents as needed.
• Support and enforce school dress and behavior codes on campus and at school activities.
• Maintain accurate records and submit reports as required by the Headmaster.
• Evaluate and document daily student work.
• Participate in faculty development on half-days and pursue ongoing professional growth.
• Actively engage in the community of learners and continue personal development through graduate courses, seminars, or workshops.
• Pursue excellence in teaching and deepen knowledge of Western Civilization’s great ideas and works.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (required for long-term substitute roles).
• Certification is not required for general education positions.
• All majors are welcome.
• U.S. work authorization required.
• Employment contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprint clearance.
• Local travel may be required for training and professional development.
