Substitute Teacher

Location: District Department of Curriculum & Instruction – reports to Building Principal. Term follows the school-year calendar on an as-needed basis.

About the role

The Substitute Teacher covers the absence of the educator while providing instruction and assistance to learners and managing classroom activities and behaviors. The role creates an engaging, nurturing, and safe learning environment that allows learners to develop their physical, social, and emotional wellbeing; delivering instruction in academics, choice-ready skills, knowledge, and dispositions to be compassionate, lifelong-learners, and contributing citizens in a rapidly changing world.

Requirements

• North Dakota Substitute Teaching License is required.
• North Dakota Teaching License is preferred.
• Experience working in a school setting is preferred.
• Experience working as a substitute teacher is preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondences in the English language.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally, expressively, and reactively.
• Exercise confidentiality, discretion, and good judgement.
• Adhere to the assigned work schedule by maintaining regular and punctual attendance.

Physical demands & work environment

• Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, talk, and hear.
• Specific vision abilities required include close and peripheral vision.
• May be required to lift up to ~30 pounds.
• Must work with the public and various staff while simultaneously managing several competing demands.
• May come in contact with bloodborne pathogens or other bodily fluids on rare occasions.
• Works in an environment that has a quiet to loud noise level.

Pay

Full daily rate: $140.00. A $130 bonus is paid after completing 10 full-time substitute days in the district (days need not be consecutive). Bonus payment follows the next payday after the 10th full-time day has been paid.

Schedule

As-needed basis; able to select shifts as desired.
