About the role
Nexus-Onarga Family Healing is seeking substitute teachers for their educational programs at Grand Prairie School in Onarga, IL. The position offers flexible scheduling throughout the school year and summer opportunities from June to August.
Responsibilities
- Complement the scheduling needs of the full-time teaching staff
- Provide instruction to assigned students in classes of expertise as assigned
- Provide crisis intervention within the classroom setting and apply TCI or approved de-escalation techniques appropriate to the situation at hand
- Ensure confidentiality regarding students is in compliance with all licensing agencies, company policy, COA and HIPAA guidelines
- Attend training sessions as required
- Understand and support the Nexus treatment philosophy and modalities
Requirements
- ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) Substitute Teaching License
- Pass a DCFS criminal background check
- Valid Driver's License and transportation
- Open to meeting the cultural needs of individuals or communities, considering factors such as language, traditions, and values
Qualifications
- Previous teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred
- Special Education experience preferred

Pay
$17-$20 per hour based on credentials & prior teaching experience.
Schedule
As needed basis throughout the school year and/or summer opportunities available June-August! Hours: M-F 7a-3:30pm (prescheduled & on call hours available)

Work Environment
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100+ pounds with assistance
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours)
- Must be able to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within the residential program
- Must be able to assist in proper restraining of client
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop and/or laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones
