About the Role
To disciple students and actively engage in the LCS community in ways that promote student growth academically, spiritually, physically, socially, and relationally for the purpose of advancing the school’s stated mission: “To educate students in the light of God’s word to equip them for a lifetime of learning, leadership, service and worship.” The Substitute Teacher is approved upon the recommendation of the Principal and Headmaster.
Qualifications
- Be a born-again believer, maintaining a testimony that is above reproach.
- Active in a local, evangelical church.
- High School Diploma.
- Demonstrate a commitment to Christian education.
- Be in agreement with the Lakeland Christian School Statement of Faith and staff qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Instruct students and facilitate their learning in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Provide classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Maintain established routines of the school and classroom procedures.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain reasonable rules of conduct that encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
- Communicate effectively with parents when needed.
- Complete other duties as assigned.

- Ability to follow oral and written directions and establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
- Effective classroom management strategies.
- Positive attitude and ability to work well with others.
- Discretion and professionalism in confidential and sensitive student/family matters.
Physical Demands
- Required vision to read small print.
- Mobility to stand, stoop, reach, and bend.
- Mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Lifting, pushing, and/or pulling not exceeding 25 pounds (infrequent).
- Subject to normal inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position.
