Responsibilities
- Assist in the education and daily program of a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom.
- Affirmative action items include implementing and coordinating all Head Start or Early Head Start functions.
- Identify, report, and provide supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases, notifying the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.
- Provide educational experiences that instill a good self-image and sense of self-worth in each child, incorporating multi-cultural, folklore, and other elements into the program.
- Ensure all children receive individual attention and are kept safe in the classroom, playground, restrooms, and equipment.
- Make the best use of volunteer help and assist with child assessments and screenings.
- Avoid illness or accidents by reporting them to the Center Coordinator and/or Center Coordinator/Family Specialist.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and in-service trainings to maintain mandated training hours and documentation.
- Maintain classroom and other areas clean and neat at all times.
- Show competency, good judgment, and self-control in working with Head Start or Early Head Start children.
- Achieve and maintain up-to-date training/certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Assist with daily activities including staff/child ratio, discipline, and safety of all Head Start or Early Head Start children.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.
Requirements
- Must be able to serve and effectively communicate with children and families with no or limited English proficiency.
- Have a working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
- Be computer literate.
- Work effectively without extensive supervision.
- Operate all office machinery.
- Function with diplomacy and tact.
- Handle all student information with utmost confidentiality.
- Report suspected child abuse/neglect to administrator and law enforcement agency.
- Abide by all Innovative Network of Knowledge policies and procedures.
- Abide by DFPS and OHS regulations and standards.
- Work as a team player.
- Have reliable transportation and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Complete and pass a health examination.
- Confirm work eligibility status.
- Successfully pass a driving history check.
- Pass a clear criminal background check.
- Be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
- Be able to stand, sit on the floor, bend, squat, kneel, lift children, and engage with children.
Qualifications
- Preferred (2) years of related experience in the preschool classroom setting.
- High School diploma or GED certification.
