Responsibilities

  • Assist in the education and daily program of a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom.
  • Affirmative action items include implementing and coordinating all Head Start or Early Head Start functions.
  • Identify, report, and provide supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases, notifying the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.
  • Provide educational experiences that instill a good self-image and sense of self-worth in each child, incorporating multi-cultural, folklore, etc.
  • Ensure all children receive individual attention and are in the classroom before children arrive each morning, unless otherwise directed.
  • Maintain classroom and playground safety, including ensuring all areas are safe and equipment is used appropriately.
  • Utilize volunteer help effectively and assist with child assessments and screenings.
  • Assist with child meal service, reporting illnesses or accidents, and managing student absences.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and in-service trainings, maintaining mandated training hours and documentation.
  • Keep the classroom and other areas clean and neat at all times, demonstrating competency, good judgment, and self-control in working with Head Start or Early Head Start children.
  • Achieve and maintain up-to-date training/certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Support daily activities including staff/child ratio, discipline, and safety of all Head Start or Early Head Start children.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.

Requirements

  • Must be able to serve and effectively communicate, to the extent feasible, with children and families with no or limited English proficiency.
  • Have a working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Work effectively without extensive supervision.
  • Operate all office machinery.
  • Function with diplomacy and tact.
  • Handle all student information with utmost confidentiality.
  • Report suspected child abuse/neglect to administrator and law enforcement agency.
  • Abide by all Innovative Network of Knowledge policies and procedures.
  • Abide by DFPS and OHS regulations and standards.
  • Work as a team player.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Complete and pass a health examination.
  • Confirm work eligibility status.
  • Successfully pass a driving history check.
  • Pass a clear criminal background check.
  • Be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Be able to stand, sit on the floor, bend, squat, kneel, lift children, and engage with children.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED Certification.
  • Preferred 2 years of related experience in the preschool classroom setting.

Skills

  • Ability to work effectively with children and families with no or limited English proficiency.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Confidentiality and reporting procedures.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
