Substitute Teacher

About the role

Regina Caeli Academy is a classical homeschool academy in the Catholic tradition, offering instruction in a formal Socratic classroom setting on Mondays and Thursdays. The academy seeks a part‑time Substitute Teacher to teach in a classical and Catholic classroom for up to 13 hours per week at its Brookfield, CT center. The substitute is called on as needed when regular staff are out sick, but may decline if unavailable. The position is hourly, childcare/nursery is provided, and training is supplied so no prior teaching certification or formal experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Teach lessons following the academy’s curriculum and grading guidelines.
• Provide instruction and classroom management according to RCA standards.
• Maintain a traditional view of the student‑teacher relationship.
• Uphold the Catholic faith in daily practice, including having received the appropriate sacraments.
• Complete background check and RCA Safe Child training before teaching.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 0‑2 years of experience (experience welcome but not mandatory).
• Ability to sign the Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church.
• Deep love for the Catholic faith and living it day‑to‑day.
• Successful background check and completion of RCA Safe Child training.

Qualifications

• Experience homeschooling or working with homeschool children is a plus.
• Ministry in a Catholic parish, teaching Religious Education or Catechism, teaching your own children, or teaching in a classical or private school is preferred but not required.
• Strong communication skills, good organization, and timeliness.
• Commitment to a traditional view of the student/teacher relationship.
