About the role

The Substitute Teacher supports the School and the Diocese of St. Augustine in their mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The teacher must embody Catholic principles both academically and behaviorally.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing consistently with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Absorb Catholic principles in the teacher’s professional and private life, and adhere strictly to Catholic moral strictures.
  • Model Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and participating in a personal faith journey.
  • Participate in and help plan School religious and service activities.
  • Prepare lessons aligned with academic and religious curriculum objectives, and communicate effectively with students.
  • Organize classroom learning and materials to enhance student productivity and motivation.
  • Evaluate student progress using methods directly related to curriculum objectives and concepts taught.
  • Establish a consistent disciplinary approach promoting self-direction and positive self-image.
  • Manage inappropriate behavior effectively and maintain a functional learning environment.
  • Cooperate with School and Diocesan administration, and work effectively with all staff members to foster positive relationships with students and parents.
  • Attend scheduled faculty trainings and meetings.
  • Enforce School policies and regulations professionally.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and display sound judgment in dress and behavior.
  • Follow School dress code standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A working knowledge of and strong commitment to fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church.
  • If a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • If not a baptized Catholic, must abide by Catholic principles in the teacher’s professional and private life.
  • Excellent communications skills, including written and oral, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; self-starter and organized; team player.
  • Available for evening and weekend work as necessary; have reliable transportation; able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in computer technology, including word processing and related software; ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and adapting strategies in a ministerial environment.
  • Ability to complete a background check and Protecting God's Children (PGC) class.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
  • Required Activities: Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.
