Substitute Teacher 2026-2027 School Year

About the Role

A substitute teacher is an on-call employee of the school, who may be called the day before or early in the morning on the day of the absence of the regular teacher due to illness or other obligations. Substitute teachers serve as role models for students and support the main school calendar by stepping in when the regular teacher is unavailable.

Responsibilities

• Implement existing lesson plans while ensuring academic integrity and motivating students to learn and participate.
• Instruct students on classroom topics and courses of instruction as outlined in the lesson plans.
• Assign reasonable tasks and homework to students in accordance with the lesson plans.
• Address various learning styles of students and adapt instruction accordingly.
• Model correct use of spoken and written English.
• Demonstrate professional practices in all interactions.
• For long-term assignments, develop lesson plans, create and grade tests/assignments, participate in parent-teacher conferences, and attend school-related functions.

Classroom Management

• Maintain classroom control to foster a safe, positive environment for all students and staff in compliance with school, state, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Ensure adequate supervision of students and the classroom environment to protect their health, welfare, and safety.
• Take all necessary precautions to protect equipment, materials, and school property.
• Remain in the classroom and monitor students at all times.
• Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the school secretary immediately.
• Supervise students in out-of-class settings (e.g., assemblies, lunchroom, schoolyard) as needed.

Pay

$20.00 per hour.
