Substitute Teacher 2026-2027 School Year

Pay follows the Certificated Substitute Teacher salary schedule.

Qualifications

• Valid Washington State teaching certificate
• Demonstrated ability to teach reading and writing
• Ability to work as a team member
• Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
• Demonstrated strong skills and background in instructional methods
• Demonstrated ability to manage, inventory, and select individualized learning materials
• Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in curriculum and instruction
• Demonstrated interest and ability to work on development of curriculum area
• Demonstrated ability to plan and carry out instructions to meet varied needs of students
• Knowledge of essential learnings and ability to integrate them in the classroom
• Demonstrated ability to use a variety of assessment strategies, including preparing students for the MSP
• Demonstrated ability to relate to young people
• Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
• Demonstrated willingness to work effectively and cooperatively with students, parents, and staff
• Demonstrated ability to adapt curriculum to students' interests and learning styles
• Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into daily instruction
• Demonstrated successful experience working with various ages/levels of students
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Responsibilities

• Work cooperatively with administration and staff to develop and implement the instructional program
• Maintain a flexible, caring, and empathetic attitude toward the secondary student population
• Provide an effective instructional environment
• Maintain appropriate records
• Communicate and interpret school program to patrons
• Attend staff, department, and district meetings as requested
• Keep parents informed through conferences and/or reports of their student's progress
• Develop and maintain a flexible, effective classroom learning environment
• Teach the approved curriculum
• Provide supervision of students in the classroom and on the school premises as required
• Use multiple communication systems, such as electronic mail, computers, document readers, and smart boards
• Develop in students a sense of consideration for others and responsibility for contributing to the benefit of the school
• Maintain department standards/agreements
• Participate in professional growth opportunities
• Assist with co-curricular activities as necessary
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
• Fulfill all other responsibilities as assigned
