About the role
Responsible for maintaining the safety of all guests and employees, protecting guests, employees, hotel and building property.
Responsibilities
- Patrolling assigned areas throughout the hotel (e.g., lobby, guest room, floors, back of the house, etc.) and other areas of building/property
- Checking functioning of door locks, room safes, fire extinguishers, and other safety/security equipment
- Investigating allegations of guest(s), non-guest(s) property and employee losses, theft, injury or complaints/incidents
- Handling special projects and safety investigations
- Picking up/retrieving overnight menus and bringing to Room Service
- Locking interrogations and reporting findings
- Responding to 2-way radio communication and calling for emergency services (police, ambulance, etc.)
- Administering preliminary first aid/CPR/AED
- Responding to fire alarms and acting as a member of the Hotel’s Fire Brigade
- Logging incidents/accidents using the Security computer system
- Composing and entering incident reports (e.g., theft, losses, complaints, incidents) and submitting to Security Supervisor for approval
- Conducting investigations into guest/employee complaints/incidents
- Maintaining all essential logs and communicating all issues to the Director of Security and Security Supervisor
- Adhering to strict confidentiality guidelines regarding internal and external investigations
- Receiving sick calls, logging into book, and notifying respective departments
- Responding/reporting to guest claims of property damage relating to guest parking/garage
- Issuing parking tickets to eligible staff
- Preventing/controlling unruly and unauthorized persons; reporting trespassers and requesting Supervisor support
- Detecting and apprehending violators
- Monitoring CCTV alarm, dispatching security personnel, screening visitors, and maintaining key control while in control room
- Reviewing camera recordings to address issues that may have arisen
- Witnessing/initialing all items placed into Security drop safe
- Checking employee packages and handbags when exiting the building
- Communicating all issues to shift Security Supervisor and Director of Security in a timely manner
- Maintaining communication in cases of elevator entrapment
- Assisting in conducting monthly, weekly inspections and drills
- Following up with guests on any incident and accident reports
- Providing security for VIP arrival/departure
- Escorting employees to subway or other transportation in cases of domestic violence notification or problems with co-workers
- Performing cash escorts and elevator escorts
- Setting up lobby/elevator stanchions/signs
- Providing banquet security upon client request
- Opening garage doors for outside vendors to bring materials/delivery inside
- Verifying and logging outside vendors
- Monitoring and providing vendors/contractors, visitors with appropriate badges
- Monitoring overflow luggage when warranted
- Operating handicap lifts in respective areas
- Escorting terminated/suspended employees to locker and/or exit door
- Securing ID, bank key, etc. if necessary
- Conducting locker room checks as requested
- Preparing packages/labels for lost and found items for shipping
- Logging and securing lost and found items; may following up with guest to provide status
- Cleaning out Lost and Found area
- Distributing items (if applicable) when expiration date occurs
- Conducting investigations of hotel employees regarding guest lost/found (when warranted)
Qualifications
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in Hotel or High Rise buildings
- CPR/AED Certification
- First Aid Certification
- Fire Life Safety Director’s Certificate of Fitness issued by the Fire Department of New York
- NYS Security Guard License
- Guest service orientation
Preferred
- TIPS trained
- Experience at a Luxury brand/property working in high-end brands where standards and expectations from guests are high
- Appearance: posture, self-presentation, image; setting a standard of presence and respect for peers, co-workers and guests
