SUBSTITUTE School Security Officer (Guard)

About the role
Maintains a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Protects all district facilities and grounds. Assists school personnel, students, parents, coaches, and community members by maintaining a safe and orderly environment on school campuses. Officers must exercise good judgment, decision-making, and consistency of communication with school administration at all times. Must demonstrate excellent character and handle sensitive matters professionally and confidentially as an agent of the district.
Responsibilities
- Monitors assigned areas of district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and criminal activity, including unauthorized entry onto district property using available technology. Initiates appropriate action when a threat exists.
- Ensures all alarms are operational.
- Monitors entrances to school property and ensures visitors comply with procedures for entering and properly registering their presence. Questions individuals for proper permits and authorization.
- Uses the Raptor system, verifies student contacts, addresses custody issues, and performs secretarial and clerical duties.
- Provides traffic or crowd control as assigned.
- Patrols and secures district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
- Conducts walking patrol inspections of buildings, including doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure.
- Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes, or detains them, or calls police for assistance based on emergency protocols.
- Communicates with students and district personnel regarding safety and security issues.
- Prepares written reports of security violations using standardized incident forms.
- Provides security for extracurricular activities such as dances, sporting events, back-to-school nights, performances, and graduation.
- Ensures crowds attending extracurricular and community events are orderly.
- Assists building administration in fact-finding investigations as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
All employment is provisional for 90 days as required by ACT 168 of 2014. Must submit ACT 168 form to all current and former employers where you have had direct contact with children. Final employment is contingent upon satisfactory review of all clearances and background checks as required by law.
