Substitute School Bus Attendant

About the Role

Assists Bus Driver in attending to the needs of classified passengers on the school bus during transit or loading/unloading. Provides support to pupils with disabling conditions, ensures safety practices are followed, and maintains order on the bus. May guide children safely across streets and intersections, assist younger children with clothing, and administer first aid or CPR as required by an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Responsibilities

• Attend to the needs of classified passengers during transit or loading/unloading.
• Support pupils with disabling conditions on the school bus.
• Ensure all safety practices are followed on the school bus.
• Maintain order on the school bus.
• Guide children safely across streets and intersections as needed.
• Assist younger children with wearing apparel.
• Administer first aid treatment, including CPR, as required by IEP.

Requirements

• Good general intelligence.
• Ability to get along well with children and command their respect.
• Good knowledge of first aid methods.
• Clerical aptitude.
• Neat personal appearance.
• Familiarity with classroom routine.
• Good powers of observation, tact, courtesy, and judgment.
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
