Job Summary

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of severely handicapped students in a classroom; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; assist students in developing various self-help, social and community skills.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • SCOE Substitute Para Educator Application
  • Copy of SCOE Para Educator Proficiency Test certificate OR one of the following: SCOE ESSA/NCLB test certificate, CBEST, or transcripts showing date AA Degree or higher was awarded
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and some experience working with children and/or individuals with disabilities is preferred
  • Some positions may require bilingual skills in a designated second language
  • Some positions may be required to possess sign language skills

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Lifting light-medium weighted objects
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate specialized apparatus and standard office and classroom equipment
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students
  • Sitting to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information
  • Specialized classroom environment for the severely learning challenged; classroom and playground environment
  • Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals
  • Exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases

Pay & Schedule

  • Pay Range: $20.78 - $22.40 Per Hour
  • Para Educator Severe: $22.40/hour
  • Para Educator Non-Severe: $20.78/hour
  • Length of Work Year: Varies/On-call
  • Employment Type: Part Time
  • Program/Hours/Location: Special Education Program/Hours vary from 3 to 6 hours/Locations vary throughout Stanislaus County depending on assignment

  • Applicants who successfully pass the screening and testing process will be processed for hiring
