About the role

The department will accept applications through May 18, 2008. This recruitment is to establish an Open Eligible List to fill an Orange County Sheriff-Coroner vacancy in this class until the next recruitment. Positions may be assigned to work in jails, forensics facilities, coroners' facilities, and remote communication sites within Orange County. Some positions may require weekend or evening shift work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey level work related to installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems and steam piping including controls and safety devices.
  • May be assigned to work in any of the following: jail facilities, forensics facilities, coroners' facility, and remote communication sites within Orange County.
  • Some assignments may require weekends or evening shift work.

Requirements

  • Will possess considerable experience and training in the areas listed below.
  • Trade Experience: Experience and knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of the plumbing and steam fitting trades; tools and equipment used in the plumbing and steam fitting trades; procedures and equipment used to inspect and test safety devices used on plumbing and steam systems; performing journey level plumbing and steam fitting installation, maintenance, and repair work; building and safety codes; steam traps, condensate, receivers, and piping; sewer and water pumps.
  • Analytical Thinking: Proven ability to read and work from blueprints, schematics, sketches, and piping diagrams; follow oral and written instructions; effectively communicate and convey ideas to others both orally and in writing; supervise the work of others.
  • Physical Abilities: Possession of excellent manual dexterity to operate hand tools or other equipment utilized in the building trades; eye-hand coordination; body strength to lift up to 50 pounds; body mobility to stand for long periods of time, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, work in high temperatures, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.

Qualifications

  • License Required: Possession of a valid California Drivers License Class C or higher by date of appointment.
  • Special Qualifications: Incumbent must have no felony convictions or be on any form of probation and pass a background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.
