All substitutes must work two months before receiving their first paycheck. Record your hours and school you worked at in a notebook each time you work in case you have any questions about your hours worked or compensation. Substitutes are paid for the hours they work. If a substitute works over eight hours per day, secretaries of each school and department have a conversion chart to calculate the extra time worked.
